ADVENT is a season of waiting, preparation and expectation for the birth of the Christ-child at Christmass. This expectant waiting is symbolised by the colour purple or blue used on Altars Vestments. The ‘Tau’ Cross signifies anticipation as we await the Messiah who brings peace and hope to the world. Flowers are not usually used in church during the season of Advent because they signify celebration but greenery, which signifies hope is used throughout. In the Advent Wreath we find 5 candles, which will be lit over the course of the season. These represent the Patriarchs, the Prophets, Saint John the Baptist, Our Lady (Mary) and Christ.
